1. Keep your computer software current with the latest Microsoft updates. If you’re running Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), turn on automatic updates.
2. Use an Internet firewall (Note: Service Pack 2 turns on the built-in firewall in Windows XP automatically.)
3. Subscribe to industry standard antivirus software and keep it current.
4. Never open an e-mail attachment from someone you don't know.
5. Avoid opening an e-mail attachment from someone you know until you know exactly what the attachment is. The sender may be unaware that it contains a virus.
6. If you use Microsoft Office applications, it's a good idea to keep them updated too.
